India’s microdrama scene is evolving in exciting ways. Initially dominated by new actors and online creators, this format is now gaining traction with well-known personalities from films and television.
Recently, Kusha Kapila and Sheeba Chadha have joined this rising trend with their upcoming microdrama, Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe. This 14-episode series will mark Kusha’s first venture into this format and is set to premiere on her Instagram page on September 30.
Written by Namrata Wadhwani and directed by Raashi Priya Nahata, Likhe Jo Khat Tujhe tells the story of an unexpected friendship between two women who are facing significant life changes. Kusha portrays Anisha, a woman from Mumbai recovering from a failed relationship, while Sheeba Chadha plays Charu, a widow from Lucknow struggling with her new reality.
What sets this series apart is its release on Kusha’s own Instagram, showcasing how popular creators can use their social media as a platform for original storytelling, bypassing traditional TV networks or streaming services.
Another notable entry into the microdrama landscape is Nikki Tamboli, who stars in Ex vs Wife alongside Vishal Aditya Singh. Nikki is stepping up to portray two contrasting roles in the series, one positive and the other negative.
While these two projects might seem like standalone announcements, they reflect a broader shift in India’s short-form fiction space. Actors now have more options than just films and TV shows; they can explore vertical fiction as a new avenue that blends social media content with scripted entertainment.
Microdramas allow established actors to delve into complex characters and narratives without the long-term commitment of traditional projects, making it an appealing option for both newcomers and seasoned performers.
