Timing is Key for Facelifts, Says Celebrity Surgeon
When considering a facelift, timing is incredibly important. According to Dr. Terry Dubrow, a well-known plastic surgeon based in Beverly Hills, many individuals, especially young women, are opting for facelifts too early. During an interview on Josh Peck’s podcast, “Good Guys,” Dr. Dubrow advised that for women in their 30s wishing for tighter skin, it’s best to wait. He mentioned that advancements in technology may soon allow for effective skin tightening without the need for surgery.
Dr. Dubrow also referenced Kris Jenner’s recent facelift, which he believes has led many to feel pressure to undergo the same procedure due to her results. He stated, “People see that and think, ‘Oh, it’s cool now. Everybody should get a facelift.’” However, he cautioned that many people may not actually need a facelift at such a young age. Forcing the issue could bring about unwanted complications, as facelifts involve incisions and risks that, if not truly necessary, are not worth taking.
He expressed concern that some individuals might end up with unnatural looks if they have multiple facelifts over time. When facelifts begin to relax, they may do so in unexpected ways, creating an appearance that doesn’t look quite right. “You’ve seen it before—people who look good but have an odd appearance around their skin,” he noted.
On the opposite end, Dr. Dubrow warned that waiting too long for surgery can also have drawbacks. He pointed out that many might rely too heavily on non-surgical treatments like fillers and lasers without addressing the underlying issues of skin and tissue laxity. “Some women stick to these treatments for too long, thinking they’re solving the core problem,” he explained. As the skin becomes looser over time, it can lead to a need for more complicated surgery later on.
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer regarding the right age for a facelift. For some, the late 40s may be ideal; for others, it could be their 50s or even 60s. Dr. Dubrow emphasized that factors like genetics and skin condition play significant roles. Different experts might offer various opinions based on their specialties, so he recommends seeking advice from both dermatologists and plastic surgeons to gauge the best approach for individual needs.
Ultimately, Dr. Dubrow’s advice is clear: the decision to undergo a facelift should be personal, based on an individual’s face and aims rather than following any sort of trend. “The best facelift is the one nobody knows you had,” he concluded, suggesting that getting various expert opinions can lead to the most informed and satisfying choices.
