The film Toxic, starring Yash, has turned out to be a major disappointment, resulting in significant losses for its producers. It’s estimated that the film has incurred losses exceeding Rs. 300 crores, making it one of the most significant failures of all time in the Indian film industry.

Adding to the troubles, the digital rights for Toxic have not yet been sold. Initially, the production team received an offer of Rs. 150 crores from a top streaming platform, but they expected a much higher amount, over Rs. 200 crores. Yash was optimistic that the movie would perform well in theaters, which would increase its value for online streaming. However, the reality has been quite the opposite, with digital platforms now offering as little as Rs. 30 crores for the streaming rights.

The film’s story format, which is geared towards an adult audience, also means that recovery through satellite rights is expected to be minimal. Consequently, the filmmakers are considering creating a new edit for the digital version in hopes of landing a better deal. Discussions are ongoing to explore ways to limit their losses, including this potential new cut for online viewers.

Released on August 26, Toxic has faced widespread criticism, leading to poor word-of-mouth among audiences. The film had an initial opening of Rs. 120 crores in India, but it is projected to finish its run with total earnings below Rs. 250 crores, highlighting its disappointing performance.
