India’s Growing Confidence on the Global Stage: A New Report

New Delhi, 06 September 2026: A recent report highlighted that India is increasingly engaging with the world from a position of confidence rather than insecurity. It emphasized that India does not have to choose between its rich heritage and modernity, nor must it decide between economic development and strategic independence.

The report noted that India’s rise is a key development in the 21st century, fueled by its young population, democratic values, strategic location, technological advancements, and cultural influence. India’s steady economic growth is also a testament to its ability to maintain its identity while progressing on the global stage.

India recorded an impressive growth rate of 7.8% during the April to June 2026 quarter. This achievement is particularly significant given the current geopolitical uncertainties and slower growth in many major economies. The report pointed out that India has created a strong ecosystem where digital technology, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, domestic consumption, and innovation work together.

One of the standout features of India’s transformation is the digital revolution. Technology has played a pivotal role in enhancing access to payments, financial services, and various public services for the people.

Diplomatically, India is leveraging its strength by simultaneously nurturing relationships with competing global powers. The country maintains close ties with the United States and other partners in the Indo-Pacific while preserving its historical connections with Russia. India also speaks for the Global South by pushing for sustainable development, equitable access to technology, climate justice, food and energy security, and greater representation in international organizations.

Sheikh Jamsheed, a social and peace activist, shared his insights, stating, “The most significant transformation for India is psychological. Today, India faces the world with confidence instead of insecurity. It doesn’t have to sacrifice its heritage for modernity or choose between growth and strategic independence.” He emphasized that India can engage globally on its own terms, which is vital for becoming a significant player on the world stage.

Looking ahead, the international landscape will be shaped by technological advancements, diplomatic efforts, economic rivalries, and the decisions made by nations. This moment presents a remarkable opportunity for India.

The report concluded that India should leverage its influence to foster a world that is more inclusive, connected, and respectful of the aspirations of developing countries. The goal for India should be to define the 21st century rather than simply trying to dominate it.
