Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has recently announced an expanded partnership with Oracle aimed at enhancing Oracle’s global AI infrastructure. This collaboration will implement HPE Juniper Networking solutions across Oracle’s AI data centers, building on over ten years of joint engineering efforts between Oracle and Juniper Networks.
HPE Juniper Networking’s routing and switching platforms are currently crucial for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), supplying the necessary scale, performance, and reliability for Oracle’s extensive cloud services. As OCI grows its AI superclusters, this robust foundation is essential, especially given the demanding requirements of large GPU clusters for bandwidth, latency, and congestion management.
Rami Rahim, HPE’s executive vice president, emphasized that Oracle is scaling its AI infrastructure remarkably, and HPE is uniquely equipped to support this with its comprehensive networking solutions. Together, they aim to create a high-performance networking architecture that meets the increasing demands of large AI systems, addressing concerns like traffic management and operational efficiency.
The partnership outlines a multi-year rollout of HPE Juniper Networking equipment, including advanced routing and switching platforms, throughout Oracle’s global data centers. Currently, the MX and PTX routers are integral to the edge network, while QFX switches offer vital connectivity and load balancing for regional data centers.
Mahesh Thiagarajan, Oracle’s executive vice president, noted that developing AI infrastructure at such a scale requires a cohesive ecosystem, and HPE Juniper Networking is a key component of their strategy to ensure performance and reliability across their AI clusters and regional networks.
Additionally, to support OCI in maintaining high performance, HPE and Oracle will work together on intelligent telemetry systems. These systems will allow for early detection of potential issues like congestion and component failures, thus improving the efficiency of AI infrastructure.
Praveen Jain from HPE highlighted the critical importance of quick detection of bottlenecks in AI operations, noting that every moment counts. Through their collaboration, HPE aims to enhance network availability and optimize overall performance.
As part of this agreement, HPE has also issued Oracle warrants to acquire shares of HPE common stock, marking a significant step in their ongoing relationship.
