India has pledged more than $150 million through two significant initiatives: the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) Fund.
These efforts are aimed at improving climate resilience, enhancing digital infrastructure, and advancing healthcare in some of the world’s most vulnerable countries. By focusing on these areas, India seeks to strengthen cooperation among developing nations, emphasizing the importance of locally driven solutions for climate adaptation rather than relying solely on global directives.
During a speech at the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, India’s Permanent Representative, highlighted the need to keep environmental issues and human development at the forefront of international policies. He stressed, “Development must remain a top priority under the UN80 initiative,” and emphasized the significance of allowing countries to lead their own development efforts, ensuring that solutions are customized to meet local needs.
In addition to funding specific projects, India pointed out the need to address broader issues within international aid, particularly the decreasing core resources available for the UN development system. India called on its international partners to increase their contributions, enabling agencies to enhance their responses to climate challenges.
