Next week, the highly anticipated film Mirzapur: The Movie is set to hit theaters, and there’s a buzz in the industry about how it will perform. This occasion is quite special since it’s one of the few instances where a web series has been adapted into a movie in India. The film’s producers, Excel Entertainment, led by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, have successfully completed the required censor process, and they received the green light today, August 29. Interestingly, the movie has a hefty runtime of over three hours.
According to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Mirzapur The Movie runs for 197.19 minutes, which translates to 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 19 seconds. Fans of the original series should be aware that it is renowned for its intense themes and graphic content, which is why it has been rated ‘A’.
This film is following a recent trend, where films with violent themes are getting longer runtimes. For example, the movie Animal released in 2023, had a runtime of 3 hours and 23 minutes, while The Bengal Files came in slightly longer at 3 hours and 24 minutes. Other films like Dhurandhar and its sequel Dhurandhar The Revenge also pushed the limits, with runtimes of 3 hours 34 minutes and 3 hours 49 minutes, respectively. Moreover, Pushpa 2 – The Rule, released in 2024, had a runtime of 3 hours and 20 minutes.
This year has also seen other lengthy films, with Dhurandhar The Revenge and Border 2 both exceeding the 3-hour mark. Specifically, Border 2 has a runtime of 3 hours and 19 minutes, while Raja Shivaji’s Marathi version runs for 3 hours and 15 minutes. The Hindi version was slightly shorter by 8 minutes. Additionally, the recently released film Toxic had a duration of 3 hours and 14 minutes.
