FANUC Unveils New Program to Boost CNC Machining Efficiency

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., Aug. 24, 2026 — FANUC CORPORATION, a world leader in industrial robotics and factory automation, has rolled out a new program aimed at enhancing the quality and speed of CNC machining. The FANUC 5-Axis Integrated Technology Initiative is designed to help CNC machine builders, CAD/CAM developers, and manufacturers align their processes with the latest industry standards.

With the primary goal of improving efficiency, accuracy, and repeatability in producing intricate components on CNC machines, this initiative addresses many challenges faced by manufacturers who often depend on outdated processes.

Rick Schultz, Executive Director of Aerospace at FANUC America, explains, “Many manufacturers have been using the same machining approaches for years, which may not leverage advancements in CNC technology. Our initiative is here to offer training on modern methods and technologies that will help all players in the industry operate more effectively.”

One significant issue many producers confront is the reliance on machine-specific workflows that can lead to slow and costly production. Traditionally, each CNC machine might require its own programming methods, with programmers needing to manually work out complicated multi-axis movements. This results in unique part programs tailored to individual machines, which can be time-consuming.

The new FANUC initiative aims to shift the focus from machine-dependent programming to part-specific programming. This change is expected to simplify setup processes and enhance the scalability of operations across different machines. Schultz emphasizes that this new approach can greatly reduce the time it takes to move from design to production. “Using a uniform program that works for any machine allows manufacturers to streamline their operations without the hassle of adjusting for specific equipment,” he adds.

A key aim of the FANUC program is to create a cohesive relationship among the CNC machine, post processor, CAD/CAM systems, and simulation tools. It offers guidelines for setting up machines correctly and stresses the importance of optimizing post processors within CAD/CAM software.

For machine tool builders and CAD/CAM partners, a standardized evaluation part must be produced to showcase that their machines and settings align with the best practices recommended by FANUC. Schultz points out, “This alignment is crucial for manufacturers to achieve high performance in today’s demanding workflows. Once they design a part in their CAD/CAM system, accuracy in developing toolpaths is vital for consistent part production across every machine.”

With the launch of the FANUC 5-Axis Integrated Technology Initiative, the company hopes to inspire the entire CNC machining community to adopt modern manufacturing practices that drive efficiency and quality in complex part production.
