Ranchi Police have made significant progress in their fight against drug trafficking by arresting a man linked to a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The suspect, Amit, hails from the Sampla area of Rohtak district in Haryana.
Amit, who is also recognized as a former national-level wrestler, notably won a bronze medal at a national wrestling event in 2013. The case began on April 20, 2023, when authorities filed a report under the NDPS Act for an incident that occurred in the Dhurva area. During their investigation, police discovered around 500 grams of illegal narcotics and began to piece together a trafficking network, which eventually led them to Amit.
For some time, Amit had been on the run. However, police received a tip-off that he was hiding in Delhi. The Dhurva Police reached out to the Delhi Crime Branch NR-II for assistance in locating him.
On August 18, 2026, a coordinated raid took place near Madhuban Chowk in Rohini, Delhi, with support from the Crime Branch team. Amit was apprehended during this operation.
Following his arrest, Amit was presented in a Rohini court, which granted him a three-day transit remand before he was taken back to Ranchi for further questioning.
Authorities are now investigating Amit’s suspected involvement in the drug trade. According to Neeraj Kumar, the DSP from Hatia, the investigation has unveiled an active network that is involved in sourcing opium from Jharkhand and distributing it to Delhi. Police are working diligently to identify other individuals in this network and to trace how the narcotic substances are being shipped to various states.
