From IT to Mushrooms: One Man’s Journey to a New Career
After spending 14 years in the fast-paced world of information technology, Vikramdev Mohapatra took a surprising turn in his career. He decided to leave behind a successful path filled with software jobs and return to his hometown of Nabarangpur in Odisha. Instead of working in an office, Vikramdev focused on a different kind of business: mushroom farming.
Now, his venture called Ganga Bhumi Mushrooms has become quite successful, producing between 500 to 600 kilograms of mushrooms each day. This impressive output adds up to 15 to 18 tonnes each month, bringing in a revenue of around Rs 16 to 19 lakh. Vikramdev has also made a positive impact on his community by employing 24 local residents.
Vikramdev’s educational journey began when he earned his BTech in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha, in 2012. He then launched his career in IT, working with prominent companies like Discoverture Solutions, Mindtree, Serole Technologies, and LTIMindtree. Throughout his career, he held various roles, including software engineer, module lead, technical lead, and senior specialist, where he managed projects, developed software, and worked closely with clients.
His impressive background in the tech field contrasts sharply with his current focus on farming, demonstrating his ability to adapt and embrace change. Vikramdev’s story inspires others to pursue their passions, showing that success can be found in unexpected places.
