Excel Entertainment, co-founded by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, is making exciting strides in the film industry. After sealing a significant partnership with Universal Music India earlier this year, the production company is preparing an extensive lineup that promises variety and big-name stars like Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol.
In a recent announcement, Excel Entertainment has joined forces with screenwriter Kanika Dhillon on a gripping thriller. Kanika will not only pen the script but also co-produce the film through her own company, Kathha Pictures. This project marks her third outing as a producer, following the mystery thriller “Do Patti,” featuring Kajol and Kriti Sanon, and the upcoming Netflix film “Gandhari,” starring Taapsee Pannu.
While specifics about the new thriller remain under wraps, insiders hint that it will tackle complex moral and societal themes, focusing on two intricate characters. Over the past several months, Farhan and Kanika have been diligently developing the project and are reportedly in advanced talks to finalize the lead actors. Although a director has not yet been chosen, production is expected to commence by the end of this year or early 2027.
Kanika Dhillon is recognized for her compelling storytelling, often highlighting strong and flawed female leads. Her previous works include popular films such as “Haseen Dilruba,” “Manmarziyaan,” “Guilty,” and “Judgementall Hai Kya.” Currently, she’s working on “Gandhari,” which tells the story of a determined mother, with Devashish Makhija at the helm.
In addition to this thriller, Excel Entertainment has multiple projects in the pipeline, including “Lalkaara,” a sports drama featuring Aamir Khan and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker; “Antony,” a suspense-filled action thriller starring Sunny Deol and Jyothika; and “Mirzapur: The Film,” an adaptation of the well-loved Prime Video series set to hit theaters on September 4. Other upcoming projects include a biopic about the legendary musician R.D. Burman, directed by Neeraj Pandey, as well as a new series from Abhishek Chaubey for Prime Video.
