Mikel Arteta Confident About Future at Arsenal Despite Contract Talks
Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has expressed his strong desire to stay in charge of the club, even though he has not yet signed a new contract. His current contract is set to run until 2027, and he doesn’t see it as an issue.
Arteta previously extended his contract in September 2024, and discussions about a new deal have been ongoing since earlier this year. However, he emphasized that other important matters have taken precedence, which is why there is no rush to finalize the contract negotiations.
“The fans don’t need to worry about anything because I want to be here,” said Arteta. “I’m really happy working with everyone at the club, and when the time is right, we’ll sort it out.”
He reassured fans that both he and the club share the same goal, indicating that there is no pressure on either party to hasten the talks.
NO URGENCY FOR A NEW DEAL
Arteta clarified that his contract situation is part of a larger picture of club priorities, rather than an immediate concern. “There’s always something else that needs attention!” he remarked, adding that everyone at Arsenal is at ease with the current circumstances.
“My intention is clearly to remain here, and I’m very happy. The club feels the same way. That’s why things are moving so smoothly,” he explained.
Having taken the helm at Arsenal in December 2019, Arteta is now the longest-serving manager in the English Football League, following the departure of Pep Guardiola from Manchester City.
ARTETA REFLECTS ON SUCCESS
The Arsenal manager also took time to reflect on the challenge of winning the Premier League after finishing second for three years in a row behind Manchester City. Arteta acknowledged that competing with Guardiola’s team was a significant challenge, given their established strength and consistency.
He noted that this experience pushed Arsenal to improve and close the gap with their fiercest rivals. “When I joined the club, I realized how far we had to go,” Arteta stated. “To win the league now, in such a short time, is something we can be proud of.”
As they prepare to defend their title, Arsenal is looking to win the Premier League for the first time in nearly 90 years. They will kick off their season against Manchester City in the Community Shield this Sunday, followed by a league match against Coventry City next Friday.
Key players like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Martin Zubimendi are expected to return for the Community Shield clash.
