China Asserts Claim Over Zangnan Region Amid Naming Dispute with India

TOKYO – On Monday, China reiterated its claim over the Zangnan region, rejecting India’s recent naming of locations in the area, which India refers to as Arunachal Pradesh.

Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, expressed these views following India’s announcement on August 7, where it designated “standard names” for 27 places in Arunachal Pradesh. India’s Ministry of Home Affairs stated that this move was intended to improve public understanding and recognition of these locations.

Guo dismissed India’s naming initiative, calling it illegal and ineffective. “This does not change the fact that the Zangnan region is part of China,” he stated firmly.
