Nanyang Technological University Leads in Global Engineering Rankings

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore has now secured the second spot in the world for engineering, just behind Tsinghua University in China, which took first place. The National University of Singapore also made a mark, coming in eighth.

Chinese universities dominated the rankings, with seven schools landing in the top ten. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University was the only other Asian university to break into this elite group, ranking sixth.

In a broader global context, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States was the highest-ranked university outside of Asia, coming in at twelfth place. In Europe, the best performers were ETH Zurich in Switzerland and Imperial College London in the U.K., ranking 14th and 19th, respectively.

The engineering field was part of a larger assessment by U.S. News, which covered 51 subjects and included 1,614 institutions worldwide. The rankings looked at research performance from 2020 to 2024, considering publications and citations until November 25, 2025. To qualify, universities needed to have published at least 250 engineering papers over the five-year period.
