Ukrainian Foreign Minister Discusses Global Impact of Conflict with India
On July 31, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga had a phone conversation with Indian Foreign Minister Subramanyam Jaishankar. During their discussion, Sibiga highlighted the worldwide effects of Russia’s war against Ukraine, stressing how crucial international teamwork is in tackling these challenges.
Sibiga pointed out that the repercussions of Russia’s aggression reach far beyond Ukraine. He mentioned that attacks on civilian ships in the Black Sea threaten freedom of navigation and affect global food security. Additionally, he noted that the ongoing conflict is increasing instability in energy markets worldwide, impacting countries far beyond the immediate region.
The ministers also talked about recent international communications and shared insights from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent visit to Washington, D.C. Sibiga reaffirmed Ukraine’s dedication to achieving a fair and lasting peace and urged India to take an active role in these peace efforts.
In a related note, Sibiga also had his first conversation with Iran’s foreign minister recently. There have been recent tensions, as Tehran accused Ukraine of attacking an Iranian vessel under the influence of Israel. Just days before on July 29, Iran had launched a missile strike on a U.S. military base in the Middle East, marking the first military action since both sides announced they would stop mutual attacks the previous week.
