World AI Cooperation Organization Unites 29 Nations at Shanghai Conference
At the recent World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, representatives from 29 countries came together to sign a significant agreement that established the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (Waico). This momentous occasion highlighted the varied participation of Asian nations.
Notably, five ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar—joined as founding members. Interestingly, other nations in the region, including Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and the Philippines, chose not to participate.
The differing choices made by these countries seem to stem from their unique development needs, regulatory priorities, and technology partnerships. Instead of showing a unified regional stance, these decisions reflect a more complex landscape where each nation is navigating its own path in the world of artificial intelligence.
