Abhinav Bindra Advocates for Stronger Education System Amid Student Protests

On Thursday, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra shared his thoughts on the ongoing student protests at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. He urged for improvements in India’s education system, highlighting that the issue is beyond politics and concerns everyone. His comments came during a wave of demonstrations regarding the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and other exam-related irregularities that have sparked nationwide support.

While Bindra refrained from taking political sides or explicitly addressing the conflict between protesters and law enforcement, he emphasized the necessity of protecting educational opportunities for young people.

Updates on Protests at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi

The protests, primarily organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), erupted following claims of a leak for the NEET-UG 2026 exam. The movement has rapidly grown, calling for more transparency and accountability within the examination system across India.

Students are demanding enhanced safeguards against paper leaks, significant changes to the current system, compensation for those affected, and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The agitation began on June 20 at Jantar Mantar and peaked during the ‘Chalo Sansad’ march on July 20, when thousands attempted to make their way to Parliament. Clashes ensued as police blocked their path, leading to widespread criticism and fueling further protests.

The movement has extended its reach to several states, including Bihar, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Goa, and Rajasthan, with demonstrations happening in multiple cities. Prominent activist Sonam Wangchuk has also joined the students, beginning an indefinite hunger strike to support their demands. While organizers are urging him to end his fast, he stated he will do so only after receiving assurances of no reprisal against protesters.

Growing Voices for Change

Bindra’s remarks come amid a broader national discussion regarding the credibility of competitive exams in the country. On the same day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced measures to establish fast-track courts aimed at ensuring quick and tough penalties for those involved in examination paper leaks, reasserting the government’s commitment to safeguarding students’ interests.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized the government’s handling of the situation, while former cricketer Yuvraj Singh also called for constructive dialogue between the authorities and student representatives.

Closing Note

Bindra expressed his hope for unity among all stakeholders to strengthen the education system, making it a foundation of opportunity and hope for future generations.
