Prodlane Secures €4 Million to Boost AI Development
Prodlane, a tech startup based in Leipzig, has successfully raised €4 million in its latest funding round. The round was primarily backed by TGFS, a returning investor, while SBG also stepped in as a new supporter.
This marks Prodlane’s third round of funding since 2022, and according to the CEO, the company’s revenue has tripled since the last raise. Prodlane collaborates with notable clients like Ovesco, NETZSCH, and Hoppe Marine, and maintains an impressive error rate of under 2%.
With many manufacturers relying on the expertise of seasoned employees, Prodlane aims to address the knowledge loss that occurs when experienced workers retire. To tackle this issue, the company is investing in artificial intelligence, further supported by its returning investor.
Prodlane’s AI assistant, MAIA, has gained momentum in the tech space with this new round, which continues funding from TGFS and introduces SBG through the Innovationskapital Sachsen program.
Carolin Maier, CEO and co-founder, explained, “Every company has individuals who possess deep project knowledge. When they leave, their expertise often vanishes. MAIA aims to capture that knowledge and make it accessible to the entire team.”
Understanding the Origin of Prodlane
Maier noticed this knowledge gap throughout her early career in industrial firms. She observed how these companies struggled to leverage decades of accumulated knowledge effectively.
“Industrial firms, with histories spanning centuries, face challenges in accessing the knowledge needed for complex tasks. We realized this was an issue worth addressing, leading us to explore solutions in the market,” she explained.
In 2021, Maier partnered with Mathias Jakob, now the chief technology officer, and they dedicated around four years to developing MAIA—even before generative AI gained traction in the business world.
What MAIA Brings to the Table
Maier describes MAIA as like a helpful colleague who remembers everything stored in a company’s archive. The AI can process outdated scans, technical diagrams, and specification documents that many tools struggle with, offering precise answers rather than merely listing files.
Trustworthiness is MAIA’s standout feature, according to Maier. It cites sources, indicates confidence levels in its responses, and highlights any discrepancies in documents, such as outdated specifications.
“This transparency ensures accuracy, allowing engineers to verify the information confidently,” she added.
MAIA is tailored for professionals who require precision. With engineers as the primary users, Maier emphasizes the importance of accurate information.
When discussing competitors, she mentions Microsoft Copilot but highlights that Prodlane’s approach is more focused. “Microsoft offers AI for everyone, but we dive deep into the specific needs of our industrial customers,” she stated.
Growth and Future Plans
Prodlane currently employs around 15 people, and this number is set to rise following the new funding. The company has seen remarkable revenue growth, tripling since the last fundraising in December.
The global market for knowledge management software, which was valued at approximately $13.43 billion in 2025, is expected to soar to around $62.02 billion by 2034, growing over 18% annually. Major players like Glean and Guru are also making significant strides in this field.
Prodlane intends to use the new capital to enhance its development, sales, and marketing teams, with a focus on expanding further into Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
Sören Schuster, managing director of TGFS, noted, “The DACH region is experiencing a wave of innovation amid a skilled workforce shortage. Companies must harness their existing knowledge to thrive, which is precisely what MAIA facilitates.”
Maier believes the main challenge lies in encouraging the adoption of AI rather than the technology itself. In a rapidly evolving industry, Prodlane is poised for significant growth as it bridges the knowledge gap using advanced AI.
