Alexander Zverev has clinched the US Open title, but it was his unusual reaction on match point that caught everyone’s attention. The German player won against Ben Shelton with a score of 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2 during the final at Arthur Ashe Stadium. This victory marks his first US Open title and his second Grand Slam win this year. However, when Shelton’s forehand shot went wide during the match point, Zverev initially seemed unaware that he had won. This marked his return to the US Open final six years after his defeat to Dominic Thiem in 2020.
In the championship match, both players showcased their talents. Zverev began strongly, securing the first set and edging out Shelton in the second-set tiebreak. Although Shelton managed to rally and take the third set, Zverev remained composed and clinched the fourth set after an intense three hours and 33 minutes on the court. His serve was particularly effective, with Zverev landing 69% of his first serves and winning 85% of those points.
Zverev’s victory adds a remarkable new chapter to his career. After claiming his first Grand Slam title at the French Open earlier this year, he can now also add the US Open trophy to his list of achievements. This time, unlike in his previous US Open final, there was no heartbreak—just a definitive moment of success as he finally celebrated a dream fulfilled.
