Tragic Fire in Bangkok Pub Claims 27 Lives
A devastating fire broke out at a pub in Bangkok early Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least 27 people and injuring numerous others. The incident occurred around midnight at the Na Ladprao pub, located in the northern area of Thailand’s capital, as reported by rescuers.
Videos shared by first responders showed flames engulfing the front of the building and thick smoke rising into the night sky. Witnesses described chaotic scenes as patrons attempted to escape the smoke-filled venue.
Firefighters managed to control the blaze within approximately 30 minutes. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed that 27 people lost their lives, and several injured individuals were transported to local hospitals. Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt noted that 63 people were taken to hospitals, with 22 in critical condition. Identifying the victims has been challenging, as many were found without identification or were unconscious.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated. A musician performing at the pub indicated that he noticed smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage just before a power outage occurred, followed by an explosion.
Tragically, many victims were discovered in the restrooms located at the back of the pub, highlighting the panic during the incident.
In the past, Thailand has experienced deadly nightclub fires. In 2022, a fire at a music venue killed 14 individuals, and back in 2009, a fire during a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Santika nightclub resulted in 66 fatalities and over 200 injuries.
Emergency efforts are ongoing to assist the affected families and to understand the circumstances leading to this heartbreaking tragedy.
