Shooting at Toronto Street Festival Leaves Two Dead and Several Injured
Toronto police launched an investigation after a shooting during a large Latin street festival in Midtown Toronto on Saturday night resulted in the deaths of at least two individuals and left three others hurt.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue around 8:12 p.m. local time and arrived to find an active shooting situation. First responders discovered five people with gunshot wounds, and tragically, two victims were declared dead at the scene.
The motive behind the shooting is not yet known, and as of now, police have not made any arrests.
In light of the situation, the Toronto Transit Commission halted services at the nearby St. Clair West station on the Line 1 Yonge-University due to what they characterized as a “security incident.” Regular train service has since resumed.
Authorities have advised the public to steer clear of the area and to heed all instructions from police on-site.
The incident occurred during the TD Salsa on St. Clair Festival, which is Toronto’s largest celebration of Latin culture. This event marked its 22nd annual occurrence in Hillcrest Village.
The Toronto Police Service has not yet provided further updates regarding the investigation.
