Norwegian Air and British Airways Engage in Playful World Cup Wager

As England and Norway prepare for their exciting World Cup quarterfinal match, a fun wager has emerged between two airlines. Norwegian Air Shuttle took the opportunity to challenge British Airways via Instagram, sparking a light-hearted competition ahead of the game.

In their post, Norwegian Air asked, “Hey @british_airways, do you wanna make a bet? 👀🇳🇴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 If Norway wins, you’ll have to use our logo on Instagram for a day. If England wins, we’ll do the same. Deal?” To their surprise, British Airways accepted the playful challenge with a cheeky response: “Don’t make bets you can’t win 😉.”

This friendly bet caught the interest of other airlines as well. Malaysia Airlines chimed in, saying they would watch the match with snacks and drinks, while Austrian Airlines joked about bringing food to the showdown.

On Friday, the two airlines shared a light-hearted video showing their official handshake and logo exchange, confirming the bet was on. The caption read: “After all the comments, all the banter, and all the speculation, the handshake has officially been delivered at @british_airways HQ 🤝.”

As the match day approached, both airlines continued to poke fun at each other. British Airways teased, “Today’s the day @flynorwegian, nervous yet? 👀🇳🇴🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿” to which Norwegian Air replied casually, “just chilling innit xx.”

Eivind Hammer Myhre, a representative from Norwegian Air, shared that their social media team came up with the idea for the wager, which they felt could generate excitement. “We thought, what’s the most visible thing we can bet? Our logo,” he explained. The response online has been overwhelming, with millions engaging positively with the posts.

Reflecting on the airline rivalry turned collaboration, Myhre noted the positive feedback from British Airways, saying, “They have been such great sports. It feels like a community effort with our airlines and the entire internet.”

Still, in the spirit of competition, Myhre added, “May the best Norwegian team win!”

The highly anticipated match between England and Norway will take place at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday. With stars like Harry Kane and Erling Haaland on the field, fans can expect an electrifying game. As of now, betting platforms are leaning toward an England victory.
