England Clinches T20 Series with Stunning Victory over India
In a thrilling finale, Jos Buttler displayed an incredible performance, scoring 131 runs off just 64 balls, leading England to a monumental 56-run victory over India. This win not only sealed a 4-0 series triumph for England but also elevated them to the top of the ICC Men’s T20 team rankings, while India faced their sixth defeat in seven matches.
Buttler entered the match after a disappointing outing in Bristol, where he scored only eight runs. Teaming up with Harry Brook, he dismantled the Indian bowling attack, smashing 12 fours and eight sixes, ultimately marking his highest T20I score.
“I’m delighted,” Buttler said, expressing his joy at returning to form. “I’ve had a little bit of a lean patch, so I’m really happy to contribute to a brilliant series win.”
England set a massive target of 258 for India. After an early loss, Buttler and Brook formed a stunning partnership, putting on 233 runs—the highest second-wicket stand in T20I history—before Buttler was caught out by India’s captain, Shreyas Iyer.
While Brook lucked out with a dropped catch early in his innings, he went on to score 95 runs off 45 balls.
“Him [Brook] is just an incredible player,” Buttler noted, praising his teammate’s aggressive batting which applied pressure on the bowlers.
Despite half-centuries from Indian players Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma, the team struggled to chase down England’s hefty total.
The Indian innings got off to a rocky start, losing Abhishek Sharma early. Sam Curran was a standout bowler for England, picking up three wickets. He dismissed key players, including Kishan and Iyer, to halt India’s momentum.
Brook remarked on their victory, saying, “We had a lot of fun. Jos and I bounced off each other and complemented each other well. We’re extremely happy, and I think we deserve to celebrate our achievement.”
With this series win, England finds itself at the top of the T20 rankings, signaling a bright future for the team.
