Flight Dispute Over Athletic Outfit Sparks Controversy
Fitness influencer Edda Elisa Pilz recently faced a surprising situation at the Berlin airport involving Lufthansa. As she tried to board a flight to Austria during a hot summer day, an airline employee halted her, saying she needed to cover up her athletic outfit. The employee reportedly referred to her as “naked,” which caused Pilz to question the airline’s dress code policies.
In a video she shared on social media, where she has over 500,000 followers on Instagram and TikTok, Pilz described the encounter. She was wearing a matching athletic top and shorts, which she felt was appropriate given the warm temperature.
“What am I supposed to wear?” she questioned in her video. “It is clothing.” Despite the heat, the employee insisted that her outfit was not suitable and requested she put on a jacket before boarding.
Pilz complied, adding a jacket, but was then told to zip it up completely. She described being blamed for causing delays in the boarding process due to this exchange.
During the confrontation, Pilz noticed that other passengers, particularly men in shorts, were allowed on the flight without issue. She expressed that her dispute was less about the clothing rules and more about the employee’s attitude, stating, “I can accept rules, but the attitude was unacceptable.”
As of now, Lufthansa does not seem to have a specific dress code for passengers in their General Conditions of Carriage. Their policy covers situations where a passenger’s conduct might affect the safety and well-being of others but does not explicitly mention athletic wear.
Pilz concluded her video by seeking clarification from Lufthansa and is awaiting their official response. The incident has raised questions about airline policies and the treatment of passengers based on their attire.
