Belfast, Northern Ireland — India faced a tough defeat in Belfast on Sunday, losing to Ireland by just one run in their second T20 match. This result meant India suffered a 2-0 series loss, marking their second straight defeat.
Chasing a target of 155 runs after Ireland set a score of 154 for 8, India fell short, finishing at 153 for 9. The spotlight was on 15-year-old cricket star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who was once again left out of the lineup. Sooryavanshi, who made waves as the top run-scorer in this season’s Indian Premier League, didn’t play in this match or the previous one, where India lost by 34 runs — marking Ireland’s first-ever victory over India in any format.
Despite the setback, Sooryavanshi will have another chance to make his debut in the upcoming five-match series in England starting Wednesday.
India’s performance against Ireland saw them lose key players early, with both Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma dismissed for ducks. Ireland’s bowlers, Jai Moondra and Matthew Hollard, were instrumental in their victory, taking three wickets each.
Ireland’s captain, Lorcan Tucker, expressed his disbelief at the win, stating, “I challenged the lads to show the world we could do it again, and we did it.”
