NEW DELHI — Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old cricket prodigy, is overjoyed after receiving his first India jersey. This marks a significant milestone in his journey as he joins the senior T20 squad for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games.
Sooryavanshi, at just 15 years and 71 days old, has made history by becoming the youngest player ever selected for India’s senior team, breaking a long-standing record previously held by cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Expressing his excitement, Sooryavanshi shared, “I can’t find the right words. This dream began the moment I picked up a bat and started practicing. Today feels like a huge step towards that dream coming true. I can’t describe how I feel.”
He described seeing the national jersey for the first time as a moment he will never forget. “It felt like a dream when I held that T-shirt; I couldn’t stop smiling. Sometimes, things happen that you never thought possible, and when they do, you’re left in awe. That’s exactly what I experienced,” he said.
His selection also places him on the brink of yet another remarkable achievement. If he plays during the upcoming tour, he will set another record as the youngest player to make his debut for India in men’s international cricket, surpassing another record held by Tendulkar.
India is set to play two T20 matches in Belfast on June 26 and 28, followed by a five-match series in England from July 1 to 11. The men’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games will kick off on September 24 and wrap up with the medal matches on October 3.
