The upcoming film starring Patralekhaa and Maanvi Gagroo, originally titled Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry, has had its release date pushed back from May 29 to June 12. The film has also been renamed simply Heer Sara.
The delay and title change were due to feedback from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Sources indicate that some scenes and themes were deemed unacceptable by the CBFC’s Examining Committee. As a result, the filmmakers decided to postpone the movie’s release by two weeks.
Additionally, the CBFC requested the removal of “Pondicherry” from the title, citing concerns that the film contained mature content that shouldn’t be linked to the Union Territory. A list of required cuts confirmed the title change, and the filmmakers were instructed to remove a derogatory term from the second half of the film. After making these adjustments, Heer Sara received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC on May 29. The film has a runtime of 1 hour and 39 minutes and 17 seconds.
Directed by Kartik Chaudhry, the film follows the emotional journey of two women dealing with personal challenges and the pressures of society. Alongside Patralekhaa and Maanvi Gagroo, the film features Arif Zakaria, Shveta Salve, and Nishank Verma in key supporting roles.
The changes mandated by the CBFC have sparked discussions within the industry. Some insiders have raised questions about why this film was scrutinized in ways others, like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, were not. They wonder why a heartfelt story like Heer Sara Aur Pondicherry was singled out for a title change.
