Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Life of Indian-Origin Groom in Atlanta

An Indian-origin man tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash shortly after his wedding in Atlanta, Georgia, last Friday night. Reports from Atlanta News First indicate that the groom, Dave Fiji, and the helicopter’s pilot died when their chopper went down near their wedding venue in Dawsonville.

Dave’s newlywed wife, Jesni, survived the crash and is currently recovering in a hospital in metro Atlanta. Dave was a pilot himself, working with Delta Air Lines.

A Joyous Day Turns Somber

The couple celebrated their big day at The Revere in Dawsonville, where around 400 guests attended the ceremony. “I was just standing there watching my son and admiring him. He looked so handsome,” Dave’s father, George, told reporters.

After the festivities, Dave and Jesni boarded a helicopter for a special flight arranged to take them to their downtown hotel for their wedding night. Unfortunately, the helicopter never made it to its destination.

Eyewitnesses reported that the helicopter crashed in a large wooded area, part of a wildlife management zone maintained by the state.

Jesni was trapped in the wreckage for about six hours before being rescued. Upon regaining consciousness, she found her husband’s lifeless body resting against her. George shared her devastating realization, “She saw blood on him, and by then his body was completely cold. She’s a nurse, so she knew he was gone.” Despite her injuries, Jesni did not suffer any broken bones.

Concerns About Weather

According to George, Dave had concerns about the rainy weather on their wedding night and warned the pilot about poor visibility. As a pilot with Delta, Dave understood the dangers and expressed his worries just before takeoff. The pilot assured him that they could fly at a higher altitude.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the crash, but no official details on the cause have been released yet.

George expressed his sorrow, saying, “Without God there would be many questions—why?” He reflected on the joy of the wedding that turned to tragedy in just a few hours. “God granted us a perfect wedding, and within a few hours, everything changed into tragedy. The only place we can find answers and peace is in God,” he added.
