KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Friday that Russia is getting ready for a “massive new strike” against Ukraine and urged citizens to take steps to “protect your lives.”
Last weekend, Kyiv experienced significant damage from one of the heaviest Russian attacks since the full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Moscow has advised foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv, threatening to increase attacks in retaliation for a Ukrainian strike on a dormitory and vocational school in the Russian-held Luhansk region, which they claim resulted in 21 deaths.
“We have intelligence indicating that Russia is preparing for a large-scale assault,” Zelensky shared via social media.
He emphasized the importance of staying alert to air raid warnings and reassured the public that Ukraine’s defense forces, including the Air Force, would be ready around the clock.
Zelensky reiterated his appeal to international allies for support, particularly for Patriot missile systems that could intercept incoming Russian missiles. Earlier this week, he reached out to U.S. President Donald Trump and Congress for assistance amid the escalating attacks.
In response to the ongoing bombardments by Russia, Ukraine has intensified its own strikes on occupied territories and within Russia.
Additionally, talks mediated by the U.S. to find an end to the conflict have stalled since the recent outbreak of war in the Middle East, diverting attention and resources from the situation in Ukraine.
