Lone Star Tick Alert for Rhode Islanders

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Health experts are sounding the alarm for residents in Rhode Island about a growing concern this summer: the Lone Star tick. These ticks are known to spread diseases, making it important for everyone to be cautious.

NBC 10’s Martha Konstandinidis explored the area to see how the tick population is rising and has shared some easy tips to keep your family safe.

To stay protected, it’s advised to wear light-colored clothing, which makes it easier to spot any ticks. Using insect repellent on exposed skin can also help keep these pests at bay. When returning home, make sure to check yourself, your kids, and pets for ticks to ensure they haven’t hitched a ride.

Staying informed and taking these simple steps can help you enjoy a safer summer outdoors.
