Australia and India Strengthening Ties: A Promising Partnership

New Delhi: Recently, Philip Green, the Australian High Commissioner to India, shared a moment from Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s speech emphasizing India’s vital role as a partner for Australia. In a post on X, Green expressed his pride, stating, “When your Prime Minister speaks so passionately about India, it makes my role as High Commissioner even more meaningful. We eagerly await welcoming you to Australia, Prime Minister Modi.”

In his video remarks, Albanese highlighted India’s rapid economic growth, calling it an “extraordinary opportunity” for Australia. He noted Australia’s unique position as both a Pacific and Indian Ocean nation. The two countries have strengthened their trading ties through the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement, and their relationship is further enriched by shared cultural connections, education, and cricket.

Albanese reflected on his visits to India, cherishing the warm interactions he experienced. He also mentioned that he looks forward to hosting Prime Minister Modi again, marking this as a special occasion.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that Modi’s upcoming visit would be made even more memorable by the vibrant Indian Australian community, which he described as the fastest-growing migrant group in Australia. He praised their contributions to both the economy and society as a whole.

Earlier that day, Prime Minister Modi met with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. During their discussion, they explored the expanding Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Australia. Modi remarked on their shared commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific region, stating, “Happy to receive Senator Penny Wong. We talked about our growing partnership in defence, trade, technology, and supply chain resilience.”

Wong was in India to attend the Quad Foreign Ministers Meeting and also participated in the 17th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue in New Delhi. She reaffirmed Australia’s commitment to being a reliable partner for India, highlighting the deepening relationship between the two nations.

The dialogue focused on various themes such as economic cooperation, renewable and nuclear energy, defence, maritime security, science, technology, and sports. They also discussed regional issues, including the Indo-Pacific and developments in West Asia.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the significance of these talks, showcasing the strength and depth of India-Australia relations.
