Israeli Airstrike Targets Hamas Military Leader in Gaza
Israeli forces conducted an airstrike in northern Gaza, resulting in the death of Mohammed Odeh, the new head of Hamas’ military branch. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that Odeh was involved in planning attacks on Israeli targets, particularly during the violent incidents of October 7.
According to the IDF, Odeh took over leadership after the death of Izz al-Din al-Haddad. They shared evidence, including a photo, showing Odeh alongside other deceased Hamas leaders. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz emphasized in a joint statement that Odeh was responsible for numerous attacks against Israeli citizens and military personnel. They reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing everyone involved in the October 7 attacks.
This operation follows the earlier elimination of Haddad, who had been targeted by Israeli strikes in Gaza City. The IDF has made it clear that they will keep pursuing those linked to the attacks. “This is our duty to our civilians and to all those who have suffered,” said Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, the IDF Chief of the General Staff, highlighting ongoing efforts to hold accountable all those responsible.
The IDF indicated that Haddad was a significant figure within Hamas, with a history of violent acts against Israel, including the October 7 attacks. His removal is part of Israel’s broader strategy to dismantle Hamas’ leadership and military capabilities, perceived as violations of ceasefire agreements.
In these ongoing conflicts, Israeli forces remain dedicated to their objectives, underscoring a continual commitment to national security amid escalating tensions.
