ENG vs PAK: Jordan Cox Looks to Virat Kohli for Motivation Before Pakistan Tests

Jordan Cox Prepares for Test Debut with Kohli’s Guidance

Jordan Cox is set to make his Test debut for England in a revamped team facing Pakistan. The 25-year-old batter has shared how the valuable advice from Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has eased his nerves as he approaches this significant milestone.

Cox has received his call-up to the national squad after Jacob Bethell was sidelined due to a knee injury. He has been assigned the important role of batting at No. 3 for at least the first two matches in the three-Test series, starting Wednesday at Headingley.

“I don’t want to reveal everything he said, but I did ask him a few questions. He told me to enjoy the moment. You only get one debut, so make the most of it and have fun,” Cox shared with the BBC. He also emphasized the importance of doing well for his family and friends who have supported him along the way.

In a notable stint, Cox joined the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) during the IPL season in 2026, where the team was defending its title. Although he didn’t play in any matches, he spent time with Kohli, building a strong bond with the former Indian captain. “I will cherish that connection forever. He’s someone I’ve always admired. If I’m ever feeling down or need advice, I know I can reach out to him,” Cox added.

Cox Steps Up Following Team Changes

With Bethell injured and Ben Stokes retiring from Test cricket, Cox finds himself in a crucial position on the team. Although he typically bats at No. 4 in first-class cricket, this promotion will test his adaptability.

Cox’s recent performance at the county level has been impressive. Since joining Essex in 2024, he has maintained an average of around 68 in first-class matches, positioning himself as one of the top players in the county.

Having made his Test debut against New Zealand earlier this year, Cox now has the opportunity to build on that experience against Pakistan. As England transitions into a new phase, his performance will be key in determining whether he secures a long-term place in the Test setup.
