UAE Fans Gear Up for FIFA World Cup: Big Screens in High Demand!

Rising Demand for Large TVs in the UAE Ahead of FIFA World Cup

As the FIFA World Cup approaches next month, the demand for large televisions in the UAE has surged by up to 40%. Both individual fans and businesses, such as cafes and restaurants, are looking to upgrade their screens for the international football event.

Rajat Asthana, CEO of Eros Group, reported that sales of bigger TVs have increased by 10-20% compared to last year. He noted that availability of larger screens, particularly those over 98 inches, has contributed to this rise. Popular brands like Samsung and TCL are particularly seeing interest in 75-85 inch models.

The World Cup is set to take place from June 11 to July 19 across 16 cities, including 11 in the United States, three in Mexico, and two in Canada. Most matches will be held after 8 p.m. UAE time, encouraging fans to enjoy the games together on larger screens.

Jumbo Electronics also confirmed a noticeable rise in demand for 75 to 98 inch models since the beginning of the year. “Customers are really focusing on bigger screens and better picture quality for a more exciting viewing experience at home,” said a spokesperson for the company.

Large Models Gaining Popularity

Vineet Kumar, head of Samsung Gulf Electronics’ Visual Display Division, mentioned that demand for large TVs has jumped as the tournament approaches. He explained that football brings families together, and many shoppers are looking for a viewing experience that mimics being at a stadium.

Kumar highlighted a growing interest in ultra-large screens, particularly those around 115 inches. “The push towards 75-inch TVs and larger is mainly driven by the upcoming football season and a desire for premium home entertainment,” he added.

Both consumers and businesses are opting for bigger screens, with homes looking to create a social atmosphere for watching matches and businesses upgrading their setups for a better experience for guests.

Noon, a major e-commerce platform, also noted a strong demand for large TVs as the World Cup nears. They anticipate further growth as the tournament draws closer, although some premium models may be in limited supply due to global shortages.

The company has seen a remarkable increase of over 40% in demand for TVs larger than 75 inches compared to last year, primarily from families and football fans.

Pricing Trends

While the demand for larger TVs has surged, prices have also increased, influenced more by global supply issues and higher manufacturing costs than by demand itself. Retailers have confirmed that they are facing rising costs and supply chain challenges, impacting pricing.

Asthana indicated that TV prices have gone up by 5-10%, but this rise hasn’t significantly affected overall sales. Retailers expect the market to remain competitive, particularly with upcoming promotions during the Eid and World Cup shopping season.

Overall, the excitement for the World Cup is driving many consumers to invest in better home entertainment, with large televisions leading the way.
