Union Minister for Commerce, Piyush Goyal, recently emphasized India’s impressive growth and market potential during a reception hosted by Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu.
In a post on X, Goyal expressed his appreciation for the productive discussions held in Ottawa, recognizing the vital role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening economic and cultural connections between the two nations.
He stated, “Had a productive day in Ottawa, enjoying a wonderful interaction with my counterpart, Minister Sidhu. We discussed India’s remarkable growth journey driven by our people’s aspirations, a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, a diverse talent pool, and ample market opportunities. I also highlighted the significant impact of the Indian diaspora in enhancing our economic and cultural relations!”
Goyal is in Canada for a three-day official visit from May 25 to 27. His trip comes at a crucial time as India and Canada are advancing negotiations for the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is seen as essential for revitalizing economic ties.
Minister Sidhu announced that a “Team Canada” business delegation will visit India later this year, aiming to strengthen economic relations. Both countries are looking to triple their trade and reach USD 50 billion by 2030.
In a joint press conference, Sidhu acknowledged the ongoing collaboration between Indian and Canadian leadership, and he highlighted the recent uranium deal as a significant development. He described Goyal’s visit as “very timely” and noted the enthusiasm for enhancing the economic partnership with India.
During the address, Goyal celebrated the growing momentum in India-Canada relations, emphasizing the significance of his visit and the largest-ever Indian delegation, which is focused on discussions to deepen economic connections between the two countries.
