The United States has strongly criticized Hizballah for its reckless attempt to undermine Lebanon’s democratically elected government. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made this statement on Sunday, emphasizing the group’s alarming behavior.
Rubio pointed out that Hizballah, which is backed by Iran, is disregarding repeated calls from the legitimate Lebanese government to stop its attacks and honor a ceasefire. Instead, the militant group continues to target Israeli positions while moving fighters and weapons into southern Lebanon. Rubio described this as a calculated effort to destabilize Lebanon and maintain its own control, jeopardizing the future of the Lebanese people.
In contrast, Rubio highlighted that the legitimate Lebanese government is focused on recovery and reconstruction, striving to provide international support and a stable future for its citizens, with backing from the United States.
“Hizballah, on the other hand, is pushing Lebanon toward chaos and destruction,” he stated. He reassured that the United States stands firmly beside the legitimate Government of Lebanon in its efforts to restore stability and build a brighter future for all Lebanese citizens.
Rubio concluded by stating that Hizballah’s threats will not prevail, indicating that the era of a terrorist group holding an entire nation hostage is coming to an end.
