US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Visits the Taj Mahal Amid Iran’s Criticism
During his ongoing three-day trip to India, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a stop at the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra. Known for its breathtaking beauty, Rubio described the monument as “one of the wonders of the world”.
However, his visit sparked comments from Iran’s Consulate General in Hyderabad, who took to social media to critique the US official. The consulate reminded Rubio that the Taj Mahal was built in honor of an Iranian princess, Mumtaz Mahal, by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. They suggested that if Rubio understood the historical significance and artistry behind the monument, he might have reconsidered his photo opportunity there.
In their remarks, the consulate highlighted the contribution of Iranian architects to the Taj Mahal, pointing out the connection between the US and Iran amidst ongoing negotiations for peace between the two nations. They emphasized that while the monument symbolizes love and artistry, the current political tensions contradict its legacy.
The Taj Mahal stands as a testament to the Persian influence on Mughal architecture, showcasing a blend of Indian and Persian artistic styles. It was constructed with the help of thousands of skilled workers from various regions, including Persia. The monument also incorporates beautiful Quranic verses throughout its intricate design.
