Anshul Kamboj Faces Tough Day Against Lucknow Super Giants
Anshul Kamboj had a rough outing at the Ekana Stadium while playing against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The CSK pacer entered the match as a contender for the purple cap but ended up struggling, giving away 63 runs in just 16 balls.
His performance included two alarming moments where he conceded four consecutive sixes, first to Mitchell Marsh and later to Nicholas Pooran. Kris Srikkanth, a former captain and selector of India, reviewed Kamboj’s performance on his YouTube channel and highlighted key mistakes.
Srikkanth criticized Kamboj’s strategy, especially his decision to bowl short deliveries against an aggressive Australian batsman like Marsh. He pointed out that once Kamboj was hit for those two sixes, fear seemed to take over, leading him to repeat the same errors.
“His first delivery was a short one, and Marsh hit it for six. After that, Kamboj continued to bowl short in an attempt to get bounce, but Marsh pulled him over square leg for another six,” Srikkanth explained.
He noted that by the third ball of that over, Kamboj’s fear was clear, affecting his run-up and ultimately his bowling.
Suggestions for CSK’s Strategy
Srikkanth felt that Kamboj shouldn’t have been bowling in that situation and that CSK should have leaned more on Mukul Choudhary and Spencer Johnson, who had been performing well early in the match.
According to him, CSK needed to stick to bowling good lengths, similar to how Test cricket is played. While Spencer Johnson faced some hits, he only conceded runs in the final over. In stark contrast, Kamboj’s bowling figures were disappointing: 2.4 overs and 63 runs, averaging almost four runs per ball. On the other hand, Mukesh Choudhary bowled well, ending up with 24 runs in three overs along with a wicket.
Srikkanth emphasized that CSK’s best approach would have been to continue with Choudhary and Johnson, who were both delivering quality bowling.
Despite this loss, CSK still has a chance at making the playoffs, but they will need favorable results in their next two matches to stay in contention.
