Barcelona Manager Hansi Flick Extends Contract Until 2028
In a recent announcement, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that he will continue with the club until 2028. This decision comes after a successful season in which he led Barcelona to claim another La Liga title.
Flick’s previous contract was supposed to run out in June 2027, but the new agreement will keep him tied to the club for an extra year, with an option for another year based on performance.
The extension comes on the heels of Barcelona’s impressive victory over their fierce rivals, Real Madrid, which secured them the league title with three matches still to play.
“I had a lot on my mind lately, especially after my father’s passing,” Flick shared with reporters. “But I’m really happy about this new contract. The club has shown my team and me great trust, allowing us to stay here longer.”
He added, “Many coaches would be thrilled to have a contract for several years. In Barcelona’s case, it’s wise to keep it limited. I truly appreciate that.”
The 61-year-old German coach joined Barcelona in 2024 on a two-year deal, following a challenging phase with the German national team that ended in September 2023. Prior to that, Flick gained recognition as a top manager after guiding Bayern Munich to a historic treble.
Under his leadership, Barcelona has regained its status as a top team in Spain, winning consecutive La Liga titles and securing both the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup in the 2024-25 season. His attacking style and ability to nurture young talent have won him acclaim from fans and officials alike.
However, Barcelona’s hopes for success in European competitions fell short this season, as they were eliminated in the Champions League quarter-finals by Atletico Madrid.
Flick expressed appreciation for the support he’s received: “In recent days, the club has demonstrated that I am in the right place. I am grateful for what everyone at Barcelona—staff, my family—has done for us.”
Looking ahead, he stated, “Next season, we need to work even harder to reach our peak and secure titles. Winning the Champions League is a dream for everyone here, and we will strive to achieve it.”
Barcelona is set to face Deportivo Alaves on Wednesday, as they gear up for another season with Flick at the helm.
