C.V. Anand Becomes New DGP of Telangana

Hyderabad: C.V. Anand, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, officially took over as the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana on Friday. He succeeds B. Shivadhar Reddy, who retired the previous day after reaching superannuation.

Anand, who belongs to the 1991 batch of IPS officers, was honored with a ceremonial guard of honor at the state police headquarters. His selection came from a pool of three senior officers approved by the central government last week.

After assuming his new role, Anand spoke about his plans for the police force. He emphasized the importance of integrating modern technology, such as Artificial Intelligence and drones, in areas like crime prevention, traffic management, and road safety.

One of his key initiatives will focus on setting up anti-drug committees in schools and colleges to combat drug abuse and ragging. Anand aims to transform the police department into a brand known for driving significant reforms in the state.

He also mentioned the need for heightened surveillance on issues like cybercrime, food adulteration, and land grabbing. As part of his reform strategy, Anand plans to recruit around 5,000 new officers to address current staffing shortages. He highlighted his intention to improve collaboration among police officers.

Anand has previously held several important positions, including Commissioner of Police in Cyberabad (2013-2016) and later the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad. He was elevated to Additional DGP in 2017 and has served in various senior roles within the state administration.

Meanwhile, B. Shivadhar Reddy has been appointed as the state security advisor to the government following his retirement as DGP. According to a government announcement, he will serve with the same status and rank as a chief secretary, advising on matters related to policing, law and order, internal security, crime control, narcotics control, and road safety for the next three years.
