Arrest Made in Homicide Case of Former Beauty Queen

After a manhunt lasting two weeks, authorities have apprehended the mother-in-law of a former beauty queen who was tragically killed in Mexico City. Carolina Flores Gómez, a 27-year-old crowned Miss Teen Universe Baja California in 2017, was found shot dead in her apartment on April 15.

Erika María Herrera, the main suspect in the case, was arrested in Venezuela following a collaborative effort between Mexican officials and Interpol. An arrest warrant was issued, which led to her capture. The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office confirmed that she is now in custody while arrangements for her extradition to Mexico are being made.

Local reports indicated that video evidence identified Herrera as a key suspect. Carolina was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds, including serious injuries to her head and chest, in an upscale neighborhood where she lived with her husband, Alejandro, and their young child.

Alejandro is also under scrutiny due to claims that he allowed his mother to escape before notifying authorities about the incident the following day. This has sparked concerns about a potential cover-up.

Footage captured by a baby monitor reportedly shows the moments leading up to the shooting, with Alejandro seen nearby caring for their baby. In the video, Herrera can be seen following Carolina into a room before gunshots are heard. Alejandro then appears, asking his mother what happened, to which she responds dismissively.

The case has raised questions not only about the murder but also about the actions of the son and the dynamics within the family. Carolina’s mother has shared that Alejandro was afraid his child might be taken into foster care if he were arrested, explaining his delay in reporting the incident.

As the investigation unfolds, more details are expected to emerge about this shocking case that has captured the attention of many.
