Cobra Bite Claims Life of German Tourist in Egypt
A tragic incident involving a venomous cobra took the life of a German tourist during a snake performance at a luxury resort in Egypt. Reports from the Bavarian State Police revealed that the 57-year-old man was bitten on the leg when a cobra made its way into his pants.
The unusual accident happened in early April at a well-known hotel in Hurghada, a tourist hotspot by the Red Sea. The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, was vacationing with family members from Unterallgäu, Germany.
During the snake charmer’s show, the snake crawled into the man’s clothing and bit him. As a result, he showed serious signs of poisoning and required immediate resuscitation. Sadly, he passed away shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
The snake show was part of the hotel’s entertainment, which included interactions with snakes. Authorities noted that it’s common for performers to allow snakes to come close to audience members, with some snakes even being draped around guests’ necks during the act.
Police investigations are ongoing, with a toxicology report still pending. The case is being handled by Germany’s Memmingen Criminal Police Inspectorate in collaboration with the Memmingen Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Cobras are known for their potent venom, which can cause severe respiratory issues and paralysis without quick medical attention.
