Kolkata Knight Riders’ Struggles Continue in IPL 2026
The IPL 2026 season is proving to be tough for the Kolkata Knight Riders, as captain Ajinkya Rahane faced a fine for a slow overrate during their recent loss to Chennai Super Kings. The match, held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, ended with KKR 32 runs short of victory.
As this was the team’s first slow overrate offence of the season, Rahane was fined Rs 12 lakh. This defeat marked KKR’s fifth match without a win, leaving them at the bottom of the points table.
In the match, KKR needed to chase down 192 runs but struggled right from the start. Their powerplay was particularly slow, with the team managing only 36 runs in those crucial first six overs. The CSK spinners made it difficult for KKR to score freely, and batsmen Finn Allen, Sunil Narine, and Rinku Singh all failed to make significant contributions. Rahane himself scored 28 runs before getting out, leading to a collapse that dashed KKR’s hopes.
After the game, Rahane acknowledged that the team couldn’t gain momentum. He highlighted the low scoring in the powerplay as a pivotal moment.
“We didn’t really find our rhythm with the bat. Scoring only 36 or 37 runs in the powerplay was crucial,” he explained during a chat with Ravi Shastri. Rahane stressed that they needed at least one player to bat longer to support the chase.
Regarding the team’s struggles, he mentioned that adjustments might be necessary, indicating possible changes in their lineup moving forward. “We need to think about our combinations,” he said. “When you’re not winning, sometimes you have to consider changes.”
As KKR faces these challenges, the pressure is mounting. With no wins in five games, they must quickly find solutions to turn their season around before it slips away completely.
