Yashasvi Jaiswal Shares the Spotlight with Young Partner

In a thrilling match at Mullanpur, Yashasvi Jaiswal showcased his sportsmanship after the Rajasthan Royals chased down a massive score of 223 against the Punjab Kings. The 24-year-old star handed over his Orange Cap to his 15-year-old opening partner, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, marking a memorable moment on the field.

When a broadcaster playfully asked Jaiswal about being the older partner, he chuckled, saying, “I don’t feel older. I’m still quite young!” He went on to acknowledge the unique dynamic of their age difference, admitting, “He’s very young, and I’m not quite sure how to handle that. But batting with him is fantastic; I really enjoy seeing how well he hits the ball.”

A Fiery Start

The match burst into action with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi leading the charge. The teenager wasted no time, scoring 43 runs off just 16 balls, hitting a remarkable five sixes. This explosive start allowed Jaiswal to relax and contribute, with the two forming a powerful partnership of 51 runs in a mere 3.2 overs.

Sooryavanshi’s six-hitting spree began early, targeting veteran bowler Arshdeep Singh. After showcasing his skills by smashing two boundaries and a six, Vaibhav continued to dominate the bowling attack but was eventually caught trying for another six.

Jaiswal took over the momentum, scoring a steady 51 off 27 balls after his young partner’s departure. He described their aggressive approach, stating, “We knew it was a high-scoring ground, so we had to come out strong. If the ball was in my range, I was ready to hit it.”

The pair has become a force in IPL 2026, racking up an impressive 451 runs together in just nine innings.

Late-Game Heroics Secure the Win

The chase became tense during the middle overs as Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets for 36 runs. However, Donovan Ferreira (52 off 26) and Shubham Dubey (31 off 12) brought the team home with a blistering partnership of 77 runs in just 32 balls, turning the chase into a comfortable victory.

Earlier in the day, the Punjab Kings set a daunting target with a score of 222 for 4, thanks to Marcus Stoinis, who played a crucial role with an explosive 62 runs off just 22 balls. Prabhsimran Singh also contributed significantly with a steady 59 runs.

With this impressive win, the Rajasthan Royals maintained their position in third place with 12 points from nine matches, edging closer to the playoffs.

In a season filled with excitement, this match highlighted the promising talents of the young players in the league.
