Unexpected Visitor at Hobart Airport
A live brushtail possum made a surprise appearance at Hobart Airport in Tasmania this week, much to the astonishment of shoppers. The furry guest was spotted by a customer in a gift shop among plush toys on Wednesday.
Retail manager Liam Bloomfield shared that a passenger alerted one of the staff members about the unexpected visitor. “She couldn’t believe her ears,” said Bloomfield. “She called airport management, saying we’ve got a possum in the store.”
The airport staff successfully removed the possum without any harm. Bloomfield joked that the animal might have thought it was blending in with the stuffed toys, saying, “I can imagine it saw the plush animals and decided to make itself at home.”
The airport later posted on Facebook, playfully asking, “Can you spot the imposter?” This post featured a photo of the possum comfortably nestled among the stuffed animals. They added that the cheeky possum was safely relocated, and the area was thoroughly cleaned.
Bloomfield noted the possum had won the hearts of the staff and passengers alike. “We’ll have a little shrine to the possum,” he revealed. “Once it gets a name, we’ll put up a nice little post in front of the store to make sure it’s remembered.”
