Bangladesh Clinches ODI Series Against Pakistan

In a challenging match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Pakistan faced defeat against Bangladesh, losing the series 2-1 after a close encounter. This result came on the heels of Pakistan’s exit from the T20 World Cup, marking a tough period for the team.

Pakistan’s recent return to ODI cricket in Bangladesh was significant, as they hadn’t played a series there since 2015. After a rough start where they lost the first ODI, they managed to bounce back with a win in the second game. However, they couldn’t maintain that momentum in the series finale.

Bangladesh, eager to regain their footing after missing out on the T20 World Cup, was all set to prove their worth. They batted first and scored 290 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 50 overs. Tanzid Hasan was the star of the show, achieving his first ODI century with an impressive 107 off 107 balls, which featured six fours and seven sixes. Other notable contributions came from Litton Das (41 runs), Najmul Hossain Shanto (27 runs), and Towhid Hridoy, who remained not out at 48. Pakistan’s Haris Rauf was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets.

Chasing a target of 291, Pakistan started poorly, losing quick wickets. Their innings struggled as they lost Sahibzada Farhan and Maaz Sadaqat for just 6 runs each, and Mohammad Rizwan managed only 4. Despite these setbacks, Salman Agha put up a strong fight, scoring 106 runs off 98 balls. He received some support from Saad Masood (38), Shaheen Afridi (37), and Abdul Samad (34). Unfortunately, the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t form solid partnerships, and Pakistan was eventually bowled out for 279 runs, falling short by just 11 runs.

As the match reached its climax, Pakistan needed 14 runs off the final over. However, Rishad Hossain dismissed Shaheen Afridi, sealing the match and ensuring a series victory for Bangladesh. Taskin Ahmed was impressive with the ball, claiming 4 wickets for 49 runs, while Mustafizur Rahman took 3 wickets and Nahid Rana grabbed 2.

Match Summary:

  • Bangladesh: 290/5 in 50 overs (Tanzid Hasan 107, Towhid Hridoy 48*, Litton Das 41; Haris Rauf 3/52)
  • Pakistan: 279 all out in 50 overs (Salman Agha 106, Saad Masood 38, Shaheen Afridi 37; Taskin Ahmed 4/49, Mustafizur Rahman 3/54)
  • Result: Bangladesh won by 11 runs.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Bangladesh, boosting their morale in the aftermath of the T20 World Cup. As for Pakistan, they will need to regroup and rethink their approach heading forward.
