Sam Altman Praises Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Amidst Growing Partnership
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, recently took to social media to express his gratitude to Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia. This acknowledgment highlights the strengthening collaboration between OpenAI and Nvidia, a leading company in chip manufacturing. The thanks come shortly after Nvidia announced a significant investment of $30 billion in OpenAI.
Altman wrote, “Very grateful to Jensen for working to expand Nvidia capacity at AWS so much for us!” This statement emphasizes the important steps being taken to enhance the computing power that OpenAI requires.
Nvidia’s Ambitious Plans
Jensen Huang has shared exciting news regarding Nvidia’s strategy to support OpenAI’s rapid growth. He indicated that Nvidia is making significant strides in improving OpenAI’s capabilities across various cloud platforms, particularly at AWS, describing the expansion efforts as “ramping like mad.”
Huang previously clarified that the company had finalized its commitment to invest $30 billion in OpenAI, quelling previous rumors of a $100 billion investment. He pointed out that the opportunity for a larger investment might not arise again since OpenAI is expected to go public soon.
Huang stated, “If we provide the capacity they need, the revenues will follow, and they will go public towards the end of the year. This might be the last chance to invest in such a pivotal company like OpenAI.”
Growing Demand for OpenAI Codex
Meanwhile, OpenAI’s Codex, an AI system that assists developers in writing code, is gaining traction, leading to increased demand for computing resources. Reports indicate that as the utilization of Codex rises, so does the need for enhanced computing capabilities.
Huang discussed this expansion, noting that in just over a year, Nvidia has broadened OpenAI’s capacity significantly, moving from Azure to OCI, and now to AWS. “We’re ramping AWS like mad to give OpenAI access to even more capacity,” he explained.
Furthermore, Nvidia is also collaborating with Anthropic, the creators of the Claude AI, to enhance their capacity across both AWS and Azure, indicating a shared commitment to fostering innovation in the AI sector. Huang concluded with optimism about the future, noting that the demand and quality of work in the field are encouraging more capacity building.
