T20 World Cup Showdown: Will Pakistan Make the Semifinals? Salman Mirza Holds Steady Hope!

Pakistan’s T20 World Cup Hopes Rest on Final Match

Fast bowler Salman Mirza has expressed his hope regarding Pakistan’s chances of making it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026. As the team prepares for their crucial Super 8 match against Sri Lanka on February 28 in Pallekele, their future in the tournament is uncertain. Pakistan’s advancement is contingent on England defeating New Zealand in Colombo.

If New Zealand wins, Pakistan will be out of the tournament, but a loss for New Zealand could keep their hopes alive, depending on net run rate. Mirza pointed out that while the team is aware of the stakes, their focus must remain on their own game against Sri Lanka.

“Yes, absolutely. Pakistan has the talent to not only reach the semi-finals but to also perform well there. However, our fate isn’t entirely in our hands right now. We’re concentrating on our match and hoping for a good result,” Mirza shared during a press conference before the match.

He added, “No matter what happens in today’s or tomorrow’s matches, we can’t control external outcomes. Our priority is to give our best in our game.”

Pakistan’s Journey in the T20 World Cup

Pakistan’s performance in the T20 World Cup has had its ups and downs. They started strong with a victory against the Netherlands, winning by three wickets, thanks to important innings from Sahibzada Farhan and Faheem Ashraf.

Their winning streak continued with a solid triumph over the United States, claiming a 32-run victory, with Farhan again shining with the bat. However, their momentum was disrupted by a significant 61-run loss to India in Colombo. Pakistan then bounced back with a dominating 102-run win against Namibia, highlighted by Farhan’s century and an impressive bowling display.

Unfortunately, the Super 8 stage hasn’t been as kind. A rain-interrupted match against New Zealand resulted in no results, impacting their chances of making it to the semifinals. Their struggles were compounded when England defeated them by two wickets in Pallekele, with Harry Brook’s century playing a key role in that outcome. This defeat has made their path to the semifinals even more tangled, hinging on other teams’ results and their own net run rate.

As they gear up for their final match, all eyes will be on Pakistan to see if they can still secure a spot in the semifinals.
