Wild Midair Fight on Jet2 Flight Diverts to Belgium
A Jet2 flight from Turkey to the UK was disrupted by a fight among passengers on Thursday, forcing the plane to divert to Belgium. The chaotic scene unfolded on Flight LS896, which was heading from Antalya to Manchester.
According to airline representatives, two passengers exhibited “appalling behavior,” leading to their removal by police upon landing in Brussels. The flight continued on to Manchester later that evening.
Videos shared online show passengers trading blows in the aisle while others reacted with shock and screams. Witnesses reported that the fight might have started after one of the men allegedly made racist comments. Tensions escalated when the man, who had been drinking, grew aggressive after not getting cigarettes onboard.
Cabin crew tried to manage the situation, but it eventually turned physical. Following the diversion, the troubled passengers were escorted off the aircraft, and Jet2 announced that both would be banned from flying with them for life.
The airline expressed regret that other passengers had to endure such behavior and reiterated their commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on disruptions. The flight finally landed in Manchester around 10 p.m.
Jet2 is planning to take further action to recover costs associated with the diversion.
