Indian Players to Watch in the Upcoming T20 World Cup

Suryakumar Yadav is set to captain India in the T20 World Cup, drawing attention to the team’s quest for glory. However, a noteworthy aspect of the tournament is the presence of several captains of Indian descent leading various associate teams.

The T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, will feature teams from the USA, Netherlands, Nepal, Namibia, Oman, UAE, and Canada. These teams come with a fresh mindset, ready to take on world-class teams. Having qualified through tough regional tournaments, they are determined to make their mark rather than just participate.

In recent years, teams from the associate nations have made significant strides, closing the gap with full-member sides. The Netherlands, for example, has gained a reputation for scoring upsets against stronger teams, thanks to a solid domestic cricket system and players with experience from county and franchise cricket.

Countries like the USA and Canada are seeing growth in their domestic leagues alongside increased international exposure, while Nepal thrives on its passionate fan support and strong spin bowling tradition. Namibia has demonstrated impressive tactical skills and flexibility, adapting well to different playing conditions.

Oman and UAE have valuable experience from multiple ICC tournaments and have developed skills to handle high-pressure situations. With T20 cricket’s surprising nature, these teams will aim for remarkable victories. For Indian fans, the fact that several Indian-origin players captivate these teams adds an exciting dimension—these athletes are eager to showcase their talents on the global stage.

Captains of Indian Origin in T20 World Cup 2026

Monank Patel (USA)
Monank Patel’s journey in cricket has been filled with hurdles. Born on May 1, 1993, in Anand, Gujarat, he represented Gujarat at youth levels but faced setbacks along the way. After moving to the United States in 2013 after obtaining a green card, he almost gave up on his cricket dreams. Nevertheless, he rebuilt his career in the US and made his international debut in 2019.

Since then, Monank has been a key player for the USA, amassing over 2,200 runs in ODIs and scoring a century in T20Is against the Bahamas. As captain since 2021, he led his team to an incredible victory over Pakistan in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Dilpreet Bajwa (Canada)
Dilpreet Singh Bajwa is another rising star leading the Canadian team. Born on January 26, 2003, in Gurdaspur, Punjab, he honed his skills in India before moving to Canada in search of better opportunities in 2020.

After making his international debut in 2023, he quickly made a name for himself, scoring multiple half-centuries and becoming the first Canadian to score a century in the Global T20 Canada. As captain in the 2026 T20 World Cup, he aims to drive Canada’s ambitions forward.

Jatinder Singh (Oman)
Jatinder Singh, born on March 5, 1989, in Ludhiana, Punjab, has had a remarkable journey in cricket, characterized by hard work and resilience. Moving to Oman during his youth, he developed his skills on various playing surfaces. He made his T20I debut in 2015 and has since become Oman’s leading run-scorer in T20s.

With over 1,600 runs in T20Is and solid performances in ODIs, Jatinder took on the captaincy in 2025, leading Oman to its first Asia Cup.

As the tournament approaches, the spotlight will be not only on established teams but also on these ambitious players, making the T20 World Cup an exciting event for cricket fans around the world.
